SAUNDERS COUNTY, Neb. (KMTV) — A pickup truck driver was fatally struck by a semi Friday night at the intersection of Hwy 92 and County Rd 25.
The Saunders County Sheriff's Office and the Wahoo Police Department responded to the two-vehicle injury accident around 8:46 p.m. Friday.
Preliminary investigation along with witness information indicate a pickup truck, driven by 71-year-old John Berggren of rural Weston, came off County Rd 25 when he was struck broadside by a semi-tractor trailer driven by Robert Reardon, 44, of rural Genoa.
Reardon was heading eastbound on Hwy 92 when the crash occurred.
Although life-saving efforts were attempted, Berggren, the pickup driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. A press release from the Saunders County Sheriff's Office says it did not appear Berggren wore a seatbelt.
There were no other occupants in the pickup.
The driver and passenger of the semi were taken to Saunders Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
