OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Food & Drug Administration says Pita Pal Foods of Houston, TX issued a voluntary recall of certain hummus products made between May 30, 2019 and June 25, 2019 due to concerns of Listeria monocytogenes. Fresh Thyme, a grocery store with a few locations in Omaha, carries one of the possibly impacted products.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious, occasionally fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Those who are healthy may suffer short-term symptoms like fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Infection of Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, the FDA says.
No illnesses have been reported yet for these products and the company is issuing the recall as a precautionary measure.
The products have been distributed nationwide. Consumers who may have purchased the product at Fresh Thyme in Omaha are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The possibly impacted product at Fresh Thyme is the Original Hummus with Pretzels, 4.1 oz size, with a UPC number of 41330 11210. The use-by date is 08/05/19. The container is a plastic tub with a clear lid.
