OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — A small stretch of I-29 remains closed in both directions in Iowa between Crescent and Loveland as crews work to replace a damaged culvert. Andrea Henry, an Iowa Department of Transportation spokesperson, says all four lanes near the culvert also had significant damage from the Missouri River flood.
I-29 traffic will need to find alternate routes around the closure for the time being.
Drivers can detour using Highway 30 from Missouri Valley, IA through Blair, NE and Highway 133 to Omaha. Travelers can also take I-680 near Loveland to I-80 to Council Bluffs.
Officials recently reopened one lane in each direction on I-680 from the Mormon Bridge to I-29. However, drivers trying to head northbound on I-29 will be redirected back into Omaha due to the I-29 closure.
The Iowa DOT plans to reopen all four lanes of I-29 in May with weather permitting.
