OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Police are investigating a crash that happened early Sunday morning that caused three lanes of I-80 eastbound to close.

Officers responded to I-80 eastbound and 42nd St at 3:50 a.m. for a two-vehicle personal injury crash.

A 2017 Jeep Compass was traveling eastbound on I-80 when it was struck from behind by a speeding 2012 Dodge Ram.

The force of the collision caused the Jeep to spin out, roll and eventually come to a stop on the 42nd St off ramp.

The Dodge fled the scene without stopping, authorities say. The vehicle became disabled after damage and eventually came to a stop at the I-480 and Hwy 75 split.

Three lanes of I-80 eastbound were closed until 8:15 a.m.

The driver of the Dodge, Rodrigo A. Amaya, 21, of Colorado Springs was taken into custody and booked for DUI-Serious Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene of a PI, PWID-THC Oil, DUI-1st, Reckless Driving, DUS, Poss. Marij. < 1 oz. , and Poss. of Drug Paraphernalia.

Jeep driver Carlo Maldonado-Eyzaguirre, 42, suffered neck and back pain. Passengers Jeffrey Lorenz, 40, suffered a non-life threatening head laceration and Luciana L. Peralta, 46, suffered internal chest injuries and is in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation. Speed and alcohol use were contributing factors.
