Pedestrian struck by vehicle Friday dies

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — A pedestrian died from his injuries after being hit by a vehicle while crossing at 67th and L St Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the area at 1:47 p.m. where investigation revealed a pedestrian was crossing the intersection while the pedestrian walk signal was displayed.

The pedestrian was then struck by a 2003 Nissan Xterra traveling eastbound that violated the red light.

Citizens attempted CPR on the pedestrian until Omaha Fire medics arrived and transported the man to CHI Bergan Hospital.

The pedestrian, identified as Thomas Smith, 45, died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, Anthony Potter, 18, stayed on scene and was interviewed by Traffic Unit investigators.

Potter was cited for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.
