LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) — A woman’s fatal shooting in her Lincoln home appears to be drug-related, police said Thursday.
Police say in court records that Andrea Craig, 34, died Wednesday of multiple gunshot wounds to her chest after at least two men broke into her home about 1 mile (1.61 kilometer) east of downtown Lincoln.
Lincoln police said Thursday they suspect narcotics distribution may have played a role in Craig’s shooting, the Lincoln Journal Star reported .
Craig’s five children, cousin and friend were home at the time of the shooting, according to Investigator Timothy Dolberg. He said the intruders “engaged in a disturbance” with Craig and the friend before gunshots killed Craig.
According to interviews of people at the scene, Dolberg said Craig’s friend told one of the intruders that Craig kept proceeds from selling marijuana in her bedroom closet.
Dolberg said there had been at least two unreported home-invasion robberies at the house during the past four weeks, leaving the children terrified, according to the interviews.
Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said investigators recovered multiple handguns from the scene, including one outside the home. He said investigators have surveillance video from inside and outside the house, which should be helpful as investigators work to piece together what happened.
Police are also working to determine if the death of Martae Green, 26, is connected to Craig’s. People dropped off Green at an emergency room near Craig’s house and within minutes of her shooting, Bliemeister said.
Bliemeister said the people who dropped off Green left in two vehicles before police got there. Investigators since have found the vehicles, but still were working to identify who they were, he said.
He said an autopsy was set for Friday to determine Green’s cause of death, which wasn’t immediately clear.
“The autopsy is going to be a crucial component of Martae Green’s death investigation in order to solidify the cause of death to ensure that it was a gunshot wound,” Bliemeister said.
