OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Owen Sea Lion Shores is a one acre, state of the art habitat for sea lions that will resemble the pacific northwest.

Monday, crews at the zoo installed two large plexiglass panels for viewing the animals underwater, featuring a smaller one for kids and a larger one--which will be 40 ft long and the largest underwater viewing panel in the country.

Workers are about 30% done with construction but the interactive exhibit is taking shape.

“You can walk almost around the entire pool and get different vantage points," said Dennis Pate, CEO. "We tried to incorporate some elements here that are number 1 fantastic for the animals, keepers can work with it and educational."

Sea Lion Shores is on the site of the former bear exhibit.

Pate says the bear exhibit wasn't made to address the animal's needs so re-purposing it was important.

The $27.5 million dollar project will open in the fall of 2020.
