OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Baker's Pharmacy announced Wednesday that they will begin rapid antibody testing across pharmacies for $25 to help inform patients if they've been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Most results can be confirmed within 15 minutes of testing, according to Kroger.

Kroger, who owns Baker's, is the first U.S. retailer to offer rapid antibody testing to customers.

The tests, which are approved by the FDA, are conducted using a finger-prick blood sample.

Those who believe they may have been previously infected with COVID-19 and are not currently experiencing symptoms are eligible to take the test.

“Making rapid antibody testing available across our family of pharmacies will provide an affordable and convenient testing solution for individuals who want to understand if they have previously been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19,” said Robert Tomasu RPh, Health and Wellness Merchandiser at Baker’s. “This is important information each individual can then share with his or her health care provider."

Research is still being done to determine how long antibodies are present after COVID-19 infection and if the antibodies provide protective immunity.

Regardless of the result, patients should continue to practice FDA and CDC-recommended safety guidelines.
