ELKHORN, NE — The total number of COVID-19 cases at an Elkhorn long term care facility continues to grow.
A statement issued Sunday evening by Life Care Center of Elkhorn says 5 more staff members have tested positive, and 2 more residents have been hospitalized due to the outbreak. The total number of cases at the facility now stands at 73. There are 51 residents and 22 staff members who have tested positive. Nearly 70% of the residents at the facility have tested positive.
Last week, the 3 News Now Investigators revealed that the facility has faced 3 major violation notices from the federal agency that inspects long term care facilities. One of those violations related to lax procedures to prevent the spread of disease in the facility.
On Sunday, the Washington Post published an article showing serious issues and violations at several facilities across the country owned by Life Care Center of Elkhorn's parent company. One of those facilities, in Kirkland, WA, was the site of one of the earliest major outbreaks of COVID-19.
