OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital and Medical Center received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine today.
Team members in the pediatric intensive care unit and those who work in pediatric infectious diseases and respiratory therapy units were vaccinated.
They work directly with children who have COVID-19 and other serious health conditions.
"Nobody we thought we would get a vaccine in - 11, 12 months from the time we started saying COVID-19. So really this is a thank you to the many staff positions that have toiled for our community,” said a Children’s Hospital staffmember.
Children's Hospital received just over 500 doses of the vaccine. It expects to vaccinate a larger portion of its team when more vials come in later this month.
