RALSTON, Neb. (KMTV) — The principal of Blumfield Elementary in Ralston sent a letter to families Wednesday after a person involved with the pre-kindergarten classroom at the school was diagnosed with COVID-19.

In the letter, Principal Casey Knight says the individual was in attendance on “Red Square Day," but not on the "Blue Triangle Day.”

The school district has communicated directly with the families who are considered to have had close contact with the person diagnosed. Those who had close contact are at high risk of exposure and are being asked to self-quarantine, according to the letter.

Due to privacy laws and regulations, the school district is unable to share any additional information about who was diagnosed.

Knight says the affected classroom has started to be deep-cleaned and the school will expand cleaning to ensure safety for students and staff.

Dear Blumfield Elementary families,

We are writing with news that an individual involved with the Pre-Kindergarten classroom at Blumfield Elementary has been diagnosed with a confirmed case of COVID-19 (coronavirus). This individual was in attendance on the Red Square Day. This individual was not in attendance on the Blue Triangle Day.

The District and the Douglas County Health Department are leading the investigation. The District has communicated directly with families considered to have close contact with the individual. The Douglas County Health Department defines close contact as someone within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes or longer. We are communicating with you to keep you informed of the situation. Because of privacy laws and regulations, we are unable to share any more information about the individual who has been diagnosed. As with each confirmed case, our response as a District will meet or exceed health department recommendations.

We have already started to deep-clean the affected classroom and will expand that effort to make sure our school is a safe place for students and staff. We take these cases, and your child’s well-being seriously.
