OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Although area restaurants are now able to operate at full capacity, it's simply too late for one Omaha restaurant. Julio's Tex-Mex closed its final location on 123rd and Center Streets on Monday.

Julio’s was a staple in the community and even had 11 different locations at one point. Now, after more than 40 years, the owners say it was too tough to bounce back after taking a hit during the pandemic. The restaurant had been doing take out and delivery service since the coronavirus began to spread.

Even though the restaurant was allowed to reopen at half capacity last month, their dining room remained closed out of concern for staff and customers, said Julio’s owner Dave Mainelli.

In a letter to customers, the restaurant’s owners said it's been a strange year and thanked the many loyal customers who supported their businesses over the years.

Mainelli said another issue was the cost of delivery. He said it was just too much to keep up with and left them in a tight spot.
