POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, Iowa (KMTV) - Pottawattamie County reported its first coronavirus death on Monday as well as an additional case.

The death is a woman between 61-80 years of age who had pre-existing medical conditions. She did not have contact with a known case nor was her case related to travel, county officials said. She was the county’s sixth positive coronavirus case and tested positive on March 30. She had been in the ICU since April 7.

“We are sad to report the first COVID-19 death in Pottawattamie County,” said Matt Wyant with Pottawattamie County Public Health. “The family of this individual is in our thoughts and prayers.”

The new case is a Council Bluffs woman between 61-80 years of age. She was tested on April 9 and is self-isolating. The woman has pre-existing medical conditions, has not traveled, and did not have contact with an existing case. She is the county's 13th case and a tracing investigation is underway.
