LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) — On Friday, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts announced new changes to who will receive the first vaccines.
Long-term care residents are now part of phase 1-A of vaccinations and can get vaccinated in the very first round of distributions. Health care workers and long-term care employees are also in the group.
The governor also announced a plan to bring essential caregivers back to long-term care facilities to help the elderly deal with isolation during this time.
Essential caregivers can be friends or family but will have to go through training to make sure all safety protocols are being followed.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says this new program will still take some time to roll out.
