1 dead, 1 critical after single-vehicle crash

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (KMTV) — A single-vehicle crash in Council Bluffs left one person dead and sent another to the hospital in critical condition.

According to police, a southbound vehicle lost control on Oakland Avenue, traveled through the intersection at Kanesville Boulevard and crashed into a parking garage around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found the driver trapped inside the vehicle.

Council Bluffs Fire Department extricated the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Medics transported a passenger to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition.

Officials aren't releasing the names of the victims until they've notified family.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
