OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Police say a 12-year-old male riding a bicycle sustained critical head and chest injuries after being hit by a vehicle.

At 3:56 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to the area of 90th and Boyd.

According to police, a group of juvenile bicyclists was traveling eastbound on Boyd when the leader of the group went through the 90th St intersection under a green light.

As the leader approached the intersection, the light turned yellow.

The bicyclist behind him kept going and was struck by a 2019 Dodge Ram going northbound, which by that moment had a green light.

The unhelmeted 12-year-old male was transported to Bergan Mercy with critical injuries and was later transferred to Nebraska Medicine.

Amos Starks, 80, was identified as the driver of the Dodge. Starks was uninjured.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
