SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (KMTV) — Masey Lawrence, the woman who struck and killed 10-year-old Abby Whitford in a Papillion crosswalk in 2019, has been sentenced.
Lawrence was given 24 months probation and ordered to pay $500 plus court fees. She will also spend 17 days in jail but not consecutively. Her sentence is spread apart to include her birthday in June, the date of the incident in August and what would have been Abby’s 11th birthday on Monday.
Lawrence, 19, had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in January. According to police, Lawrence was speeding and failed to yield at 2nd and Washington Streets and hit Whitford.
