Four La Vista police officers will be recognized Tuesday night for their life-saving actions responding to two different 911 calls in December.

Officers Brian Mathew, Dana Miller, Steve Walter and TJ Jacik will receive the La Vista Police Department’s Live Saving Award.

Seven Papillion firefighters and a Sarpy County 911 operator will also receive an Appreciation certificate.

Mathew and Miller are being recognized for performing CPR and using an automated external defibrillator, or AED, to help save the life of a 64-year-old woman who had a seizure on Dec. 4.

The woman survived after being taken to the hospital where she underwent heart surgery.

Walter and Jacik are credited for helping save the life of a 5-week-old baby on New Year’s Eve.

They gave the baby, who was not breathing and bleeding from the nose, CPR until medics arrived and were able to revive the child.

The baby was taken to the hospital and has recovered. The baby’s mother called the two officers guardian angels for her daughter.
