A 65-year-old man died Friday morning in a crash in Pottawattamie County.
Peter O'Mahoney of LaGrange Park, Ill., was found dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash near Highway 6 and Sunnydale Road, about six miles east of Council Bluffs.
At 8:37 a.m., Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the scene of the crash, where deputies found a man at the scene who was unresponsive; rescue personnel determined the man had died.
According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, a preliminary investigation determined that O’Mahoney was eastbound on Highway 6 in a 2005 Honda Civic and turned onto Sunnydale Road, and seemed to be attempting a U-turn. Paula Moody, 64, of Omaha was eastbound on Highway 6 in a 2014 Ford Econoline van and struck O’Mahoney’s vehicle in the driver’s side, which caused both vehicles to travel into the ditch.
The crash remains under investigation.
