One of Omaha's hottest new developments will become home to the city's second Entertainment District.  The city council approved that plan unanimously Tuesday afternoon.

The city says Noddle Companies can create an Entertainment District between the new HDR building and parking garage at 67th & Frances St.

Councilman Chris Jerram says you need to know the designation is not for all of Aksarben Village, only a small part that would be geared toward restaurants and retail.

A few blocks away, Councilman Jerram says developers of the new building at 67th & Mercy Rd. are also eyeing an Entertainment District.  He doesn't worry that it would change the area's identity into a party scene.

"The developers on the HDR property and what I'm calling the Pac Life block are very professional and they have very high-end tenants and they would not want to do anything that would compromise or jeopardize their good standing so I'm confident that what comes forward will be done in a professional way," Councilman Jerram explained.

The NE Liquor Control Commission will want to know what barriers and signs will go up to keep people from walking all over Aksarben Village with booze.  The Entertainment District at HDR is set to open in May.

The 2nd one that's being talked about near the building under construction is still just a discussion.
