In July and August compliance checks, 39 Omaha-area businesses were cited for selling alcohol to a minor. In total, that was 10 percent of businesses checked, up from 6 percent in February and May.
"We don't like to see any sales to minors, but we're particularly concerned with the the number of sales doubling over the summer months, a time wen youth access to alcohol typically increases as they have more time to hang out with their friends and less school commitment," Sergeant Tim Owens said in a release.
Five businesses were repeat offenders and all could face punishment of two days of mandatory closure and a suspension of their liquor license.
Those businesses are Brickway Brewing, Hy-Vee Gas (South 96th Street), Farmhouse Cafe, Korea King and the Omaha Marriott Hotel.
