Authorities have located the 8-year-old boy who was subject of an Amber Alert earlier Wednesday evening.

The Nebraska State Patrol confirmed with 3 News Now that the boy was found safe and that Michael H. Westerholm, 33, had been arrested in Fremont.

Omaha Police Officer Phil Anson gave a statement just before 8 p.m. about the day's events.

"Right now, our Child Victim Unit is on their way to Fremont to pick up the young child," Anson said.

Anson said Omaha Police were called to 149th Street and O Plaza, just off Q Street, at 4:40 p.m. following a report of an abducted 8-year-old child. At 5:20 p.m., Nebraska State Patrol issued an Amber Alert with a description of the suspect vehicle, a grey 2008 Chevy Malibu. Calls reporting the vehicle's location came in immediately, Anson said, including a report of the vehicle matching the description and plate number driving off without paying at a gas station in Fremont.

Around 7:10 p.m., the vehicle was located by Fremont Police, Anson said. Following a short pursuit, he said, Westerholm was taken into custody without a struggle, and the child was safely apprehended by police.

The Amber Alert was canceled just before 7:30 p.m.

Westerholm has previously been charged with a Class 3A felony attempted burglary for an incident July 2 at a building near 72nd and Center streets, according to Douglas County court documents.

He had also been arrested for trespassing at Bergan Mercy Hospital on July 5th. He was trying to get into the NICU to and told police he was trying to see his newborn daughter.
