Arrest warrant issued for owner of business that exploded

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Last year, the Wardrobe Spa in West Omaha went up in flames after a natural gas explosion according to fire marshals who investigated the incident. Today, an arrest warrant was issued and the owner is now being booked for multiple felony counts related to the explosion.

The Sarpy County Attorney's Office says 53-year-old Michael McKernan has been booked for:

  • Arson in the Second Degree, a class 3 felony
  • Two counts of Fraudulent Insurance Act, $5,000 or More, class 3 felonies
  • Burning to Defraud Insurer, a class 4 felony

They say McKernan, if convicted, will face a maximum penalty of fourteen years in prison, an $85,000 fine, or both and nine months of post-release supervision.

No Bond has been set at this time.
