Rep. Brad Ashford conceded this morning to Republican challenger Don Bacon in the 2nd District.

According to our partners at the Omaha World-Herald, Ashford called Bacon to congratulate him on his victory.

This morning, Congressman Brad Ashford announced a press conference at his campaign headquarters to discuss the results of the 2nd District Congressional race.

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement today congratulating Don Bacon on his victory in Nebraska's second district congressional race:

"Congratulations to my friend Don Bacon on his principled campaign and important win for Nebraska. He will be a strong leader for the second district. I look forward to working with him to serve the people of our great state."

Rep. Ashford said Wednesday morning was a celebration of what he’s been able to accomplish in Washington in his two years.

“I don’t think we would have had the success we’ve had with the runway, the medical center, and with the Ebola issue had we not been able to create teams of Democrats and Republicans certainly within the delegation,” Rep. Ashford explained.  “No one could ever have dreamt that the dreams that I’ve had have been fulfilled by this two years in congress.”

Rep. Ashford became emotional multiple times talking about his love for Omaha and the honor he had hosting President Obama in the metro.

He will now take some time to figure out his next journey, but doesn't anticipate running for an elected office.
