Hot, humid days can be downright unbearable, especially if you don't have air conditioning. The sweltering heat can be extremely dangerous, even deadly.

So today, Douglas County Assessor's Office employees set out to help.

Armed with 60 box fans, they teamed up with the Omaha Housing Authority, donating them to people who live at Florence Towers and Benson Towers. Thirty fans were dropped off Wednesday at each location.

Resident Angela Hall says she's grateful.

"It means a lot that the community would do that for us, especially with how crazy things are nowadays. For the community to come together and pitch in to make sure we are comfortable in our home, I'm thankful for that."

The county employees used their "jeans fund” to pay for the fans; donations made to the fund allow employees there to wear jeans on Wednesdays.
