Friday afternoon, Omaha leaders and officials put their focus on kindness with a special dedication.

Area mayors and educators joined members of police and fire departments at UNO's Thompson Alumni Center for the signing of a resolution declaring Aug. 24 "Be Kind Day."

The initiative encourages students to make positive personal connections in the digital era we live in.

After the loss of his son, Ralston superintendent Dr. Mark Alder and his wife started the movement.
