BELLEVUE, Neb. (KMTV) — A Bellevue man was sentenced Wednesday after strangling his wife at their home and throwing her into the Missouri River in June 2018.

Brandon Norton was sentenced to 41 1/2 - 62 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to second degree murder and disposing of a body back in January.

Norton was upset that his wife Jennifer was planning to divorce him. The couple had two children together, and her family says her kids were her life.

Her family says it's not enough, they wanted to see him get life in prison.

“Jennifer doesn’t have a chance to raise her or anything why should he? Jennifer doesn’t have a chance to see her kids grow up, get married, have children of their own. Why should he?” said Jennifer's mother, Dolly Mason.

Authorities didn't know he killed his wife until he walked in their door and told them the next day. Her body was found near Plattsmouth.

He’ll be eligible for parole in about 20 years with good time. Sarpy County District Court Judge Nathan Cox said in 20 years his children can be part of the decision on if Brandon is paroled or not. Jennifer's family says she will never get the chance to speak to the parole board, or to her kids again.
