OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Tommy Nguyen is 32-years-old. He's a busy guy working two jobs.
He's had more than enough time over the past four years to spend with his little, Kaleb.
"We do all sorts of stuff," Tommy said. "This past New Year's, no one wanted to go downtown and watch fireworks with me and I asked him."
Tommy and Kaleb are one of the picture-perfect brotherly match-ups thanks to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands.
But the program needs more role models for the 130 little brothers and sisters that are signed up in the Omaha area. The program needs more men.
CEO Nichole Turgeon says the program strives to make every match like Tommy and Kaleb's.
"It's really important to us to get the match right," Turgeon said. "We're not going to put them with the person on the list the longest. We want to find the perfect match so it's a bit of a process."
Tommy has watched Kaleb grow up over the past four years. They found common ground on things neither were once interested in.
The program says even couples can sign up together to take care of littles.
Tommy encourages others to try something new this year. He says you might be surprised what kind of effect this has on you and somebody else.
"One time in a cooking class, [Kaleb] made everybody stand up and introduce themselves and talk," Tommy said. "So he's one of those kids that are so amazing to be around."
