During a packed Council Bluffs school board meeting Tuesday night, the Council Bluffs Community School District Board voted to keep Crescent Elementary School open.
After hours of tough discussions from parents, the board, and the superintendent, the board voted on a 5-2 decision to reject the district’s proposal to close the school.
Superintendent, Dr. Martha Bruckner advised the board to close the school due to falling enrollment numbers and decreased school funding.
Bruckner’s proposal said the district would have about $180,000 by closing the elementary.
Troy Arthur, president of the school board, who voted to keep the school open says he didn’t believe a short term benefit for the district compared to the long term benefit of the community.
