OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - The race for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District saw a familiar face enter the race Sunday.
Democrat Brad Ashford, who held the seat for two years before losing to Republican Don Bacon in 2016, will run against Bacon in the 2018 election cycle.
“My work is not done. I see people being hurt by their government and I watch as a partisan divide has torn at our nation when what is needed, more than ever, is leadership without vitriol," Ashford said in a release. "Congress has lost touch with the people that it is supposed to protect and represent. This inspires me to continue upon my progress during my time in Congress. These divisions must be healed, trust must be earned and we must get back to a time when we can be proud of our government.”
Previously, Brad Ashford said his family was still deciding if he or his wife, Ann, would run for the seat in the 2nd District.
"For the last three decades, Brad Ashford has worked across party lines to get things done for Nebraska," his website says. "After a lifetime of public service, Brad Ashford’s commitment to prosperity has made Nebraska a better and safer place to live, work and raise a family. He has always put the interests of the people of Nebraska first."
Non-profit CEO Kara Eastman has already announced she is also running as a Democrat for the seat.
