A home in valley is a total loss after a fire broke out Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the area of 285th and West Maple around 12:30 p.m.. When they arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames.
Crews also battled the bitterly cold temperatures.
Fortunately, no one was at home when this home went up in flames.
Firefighters spent hours trying to put out the flames.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but Waterloo Fire chief Travis Harlow says a wood burning stove could possibly be the cause.
Harlow says the distance between the closest fire hydrant and the home played a role in how long it took to put the fire out.
