OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Council Bluffs Police say they were led on a chase this morning after responding to a robbery call at the U.S. Bank at 350 34th Avenue.

Officers were dispatched to the bank just before 11 a.m. and were given a description of the vehicle and suspect. Shortly after, they received a call about a suspect, who matched the description, trying to break into a garage in the 5100 block of Gifford Road. Police believe the suspect was trying to steal a vehicle in the garage.

After officers arrived at the second scene, they observed the vehicle leaving the scene and managed to flatten its tires with stop sticks.

They say the suspect, now identified as 40-year-old Brandon Bird of Hastings, lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a ditch. Officers moved in and were able to take him into custody.

Council Bluffs Police say the incident is still being investigated by the department as well as the FBI and that Bird has been booked into Pottawattamie County Jail on charges of Robbery 2nd, Burglary 1st, Theft 1st and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
