OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — As winter weather rolled into the area for the first time this decade, crews in Sarpy County were bracing for the storm.
In La Vista, workers were busy loading their trucks with salt to treat the roads.
Brady Small, who works with La Vista Public Works, says they pre-treated some of the roads and tonight they'll be focusing on bridges and elevated surfaces.
Wind will be the biggest issue tonight. Gusts as high as 30 miles per hour make conditions tough on drivers plowing area roads, especially when it gets dark and it's harder to see.
Crews we talked to today said snow dustings are not the best for their trucks. They said they use just as much salt for lighter storms and if they're on the roads, they want to be pushing something big.
Minor snow puts a lot of wear and tear on the equipment they say.
