OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The College of St. Mary hopes to begin construction this spring on an $18 million athletic complex.

The Omaha Planning Board this week unanimously approved a zoning change for a site on the east side of the college campus, near the Aksarben Village, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

The 1,100-student college plans to pay for the project with donations.

“This is an exciting project,” civil engineer Dawn Danley, of the DLR Group, told the Planning Board.

The complex will include a 200-meter indoor track, basketball and volleyball courts, batting tunnels for softball, fitness area, locker rooms and meeting space.

St. Mary is a women’s college but some graduate program are open to men.

The college still is awaiting approval of a permit to build in a flood fringe zone, as it’s near Little Papillion Creek.
