UPDATE, Dec. 6: CoCo was found about half-mile from 15th and Harney on Dec. 5, the same day as her second birthday.

Original Story

The Hecker family lost their dog CoCo Monday afternoon near 15th and Harney. Since then, the community has stepped up to help them try and find the two-year-old dog.

Melanie Hecker has been putting up flyers all around downtown Omaha. She said CoCo went missing after running away from Starbuck around 3:45pm on Monday.

Hecker took to Facebook to ask for help in searching for CoCo.

“I couldn't believe how many of my neighbors were out for hours after that,” Hecker said. “Looking in areas we don't even think she knew to go.”

The support didn’t stop there, Hecker said while she has been frantically searching; random people have offered her help.

“Every walk of man has helped us.”

There are almost a dozen billboards up around town, letting people know that CoCo is lost.

“I know it is odd for a lost pet to be on a billboard, but we have friends who have come together and pulled their support and made it possible,” Hecker said.

The emotions are running high and she searches for CoCo, but the support has made Hecker hopeful that she will make it back home.

“In the end it is about trying to find a family member, she may be furry and she may be small but she is family.”

There is a $1,500 reward for CoCo, Hecker said she means that much to her and her husband. CoCo did have tags on and she is micro-chipped.
