OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — If you're headed downtown for the College World Series in two weeks, you may need to be aware of some construction zones.
The demolition and progression of Gene Leahy Mall will continue, and the following provisions will help limit disruptions throughout the series.
- Construction and truck traffic will be generally limited in downtown Omaha throughout the event.
- Hauling hours will be staggered with game times; during morning game days hauling will happen in the afternoon, and during afternoon game days hauling will occur during morning hours.
- The usual hauling route that utilizes north 13th Street near TD Ameritrade park will temporarily reroute to bypass championship traffic during peak times.
- The 13th Street Bridge in downtown Omaha will remain open through the duration of the CWS.
The Gene Leahy Mall construction is part of the Riverfront Revitalization happening in that area. The project got underway in February and will last four years. Along with the Leahy Mall, Lewis & Clark Landing and the Heartland of America Park will also undergo renovations. The project should be completed by 2023.
