'Contagion' screening to feature Q&A with expert

Posted

A local health expert who recently helped in the response to Ebola in Africa will talk about his connection to Hollywood.

Dr. Ali Khan, the dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health, will speak after a screening of the 2011 movie “Contagion” at Film Streams Tuesday as part of the new Science on Screen series.

Organizers say Khan consulted during the making of the film, which stars Kate Winslet, Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow.

"He was asked to consult on the technical accuracy of "Contagion," providing insights for the role of an infectious disease scientist, portrayed by Winslet," Film Streams said.

Khan served as a senior administrator for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention before becoming a dean at UNMC.

Last summer, he traveled to West Africa to help the World Health Organization address the Ebola crisis.

Tickets for the screening cost $9.
