Council Bluffs man attacks dog, gets arrested on drug charges

A Council Bluffs man was charged with manufacturing marijuana, harassment, tax stamp, possession of a controlled substance marijuana personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia after he allegedly stabbed a dog. 

According to a release, 52-year-old James Herman attacked his neighbor's dog after it got loose and attacked his dogs. Police say Herman first used his fists but then stabbed the dog several times and threatened to stab the dogs owner. 

While officers were discussing the incident, they discovered a marijuana grow operation in his home. Detectives from the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force took over the investigation and found several marijuana plants at various stages of growth and drug paraphernalia. 

Herman's dogs suffered minor injuries and the other dog was transported to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic.
