Council Bluffs Police investigate officer-involved shooting

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa. (KMTV) — A Council Bluffs Police officer avoided gunfire and left a suspect with non-life threatening injuries after a confrontation at Bucky's Gas Station near 35th St & Nebraska Ave Saturday morning.

Around 8 a.m., a Council Bluffs Police officer responded to the gas station where he was informed by an employee that a man had just stolen a $13.99 gas can from the business.

According to authorities, the officer then confronted the man at the front of the gas station where the suspect reached inside his pocket, displayed a gun and fired it.

The officer was uninjured and returned fire, striking the suspect in the left hip.

A short time later, the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jimmy J. Carr, was arrested without further incident.

Carr was transported to UNMC for treatment. No one else was injured in the incident and the officer's names will be released at a later time.

The Council Bluffs Police Department will work with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations to investigate the incident.
