BELLEVUE, Neb. (KMTV) -- — The councilmember at the center of a recall petition says almost all the allegations are false.
It alleges Welch doesn't live in her district, uses her position and information for personal financial gain, unlawfully voted when she had a conflict, and that she's made inappropriate comments.
Welch says she made an error in voting which has since been remedied with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosures Commission, she does live in her ward, and the real estate transaction in question has been canceled.
“Let me be clear. I may be the only woman on this Bellevue City Council, but I am neither weak nor an easy target for intimidation by bully tactics,” Councilwoman Welch explained.
The recently passed Bellevue ordinance that would let the city council sanction elected officials is also part of this. Councilmembers say there have been a lot of inappropriate sexual and violent comments made that shouldn't be tolerated by other council members.
Shannon says he has 100 people ready to get petitions signed. They would need more than 800 valid signatures for it to be put to a vote.
