Monday afternoon students from Nelson Mandela Elementary were smiling brighter thanks to Creighton Dental students.
The Creighton School of Dentistry hosted a free dental clinic for kids as part of their "Give Kids a Smile" partnership. The students committed last year to provide year-round service to kids in the North Omaha school. Their goal is the school be cavity free by 2023.
"It's going great, this morning we had a lot of the kids that recognized us and knew what we were doing here. They were excited about it," Creighton Dental's student coordinator Scott McLaren said. "The good thing is they're getting excited about brushing their teeth and taking care of their teeth."
Creighton's students also handed out Bluejay Bucks, which allow students to get dental care for just $10 per visit at the new dental school on campus.
