A man was air-lifted out of the De Soto area Tuesday afternoon after a firework injury to his hand.

Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, crews from the Fort Calhoun Fire Department, the Washington County Sheriff's Office and LifeNet responded to the scene of a man injured by commercial fireworks, said Dave Atten, Blair Fire Department's assistant chief.

Crews worked to stop the bleeding before he was flown to Nebraska Medicine, Atten said, but the severity of his injuries was not yet known.

Highway 75 and Power Lane were shut down about 15 minutes Tuesday afternoon for LifeNet, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office Twitter account. Highway 75 in the area of County Road P26 was also closed for the landing of a medical helicopter.

This is a developing story.
