District 2 congressional race expected to be close again

The 2018 mid-term election is still more than a year away, but the race for District 2, which covers most of the Omaha metro, is already shaping up to be one of the costliest elections in the nation.

According to Roll Call, the New Democrat Coalition has named Brad Ashford one of twelve challengers to watch. Ashford previously held the seat in Nebraska's second district before losing a close race to Republican Don Bacon.

Before Ashford challenges Bacon, though, he has to defeat challenger Kara Eastman in the Democratic primary. Should he do that, moderate Democrat groups plan to contribute money and advice to his campaign.

Bacon told 3 News Now he is looking forward to discussing his re-election campaign after he makes his official announcement.

Contributors outside the district spent $9 million on the 2016 race between Bacon and Ashford, which ranked as one of the 10 most expensive in the country.
