Douglas County approaches 50k COVID-19 cases since pandemic began

Douglas County Health Department

The Douglas County Health Department reported 274 additional COVID-19 cases on Tuesday for a total of 49,921 cases.

No additional deaths were reported.

There have been a total of 440 deaths related to the pandemic in Douglas County.

A total of 27,450 residents have recovered.

Nebraska Department of Corrections

Director Scott R. Frakes announced that nine staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The staff members are employed at the following locations: Omaha Correctional Center (2), Nebraska State Penitentiary (2), Lincoln Correctional Center (2), Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (1), Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (1) and the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (1). All of the staff members are self-isolating at home.

Notification will be provided to those who live and work in those locations as to the positive cases. In addition, anyone who may have had close contact with the staff members will be directed to self-quarantine until cleared by a medical provider.

This brings the total number of NDCS staff members diagnosed with COVID-19 to 448. Three hundred and forty-three of those individuals have recovered from COVID-19.
