OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) says flu activity has started to decrease according to most indicators; however, Nebraska remains one of 32 states experiencing high levels of the illness.
Two pediatric deaths related to the flu have occurred in Douglas County this season, along with seven deaths in adults over 65.
The amount of flu-related outpatient visits, emergency department visits and hospital admissions remain high but decreased compared to prior weeks, while children absent from school last week due to the illness increased.
A total of 4,293 lab-confirmed cases of influenza have been reported since Sept. 29, 2019, including 266 cases reported last week.
DCHD urges individuals who have not been vaccinated to do so as it's the best way to reduce the risk from flu and possibly serious complications.
