The driver in Wednesday's fatal van crash on the Interstate 680 North on-ramp off I-80 West was released from the hospital and booked on several charges over the weekend, according to Omaha Police.
Omaha Police booked Nemias Garcia-Velasco, 32, released from Nebraska Medicine on Saturday following treatment for severe burns to his lower legs, was booked Saturday on charges of motor vehicle homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and having no operator's license.
Silvano Torres, 58, of Omaha, was declared dead at the scene of the accident. Jesus I Gonzalez, 16, was treated and released the day of the crash, the release states.
The crash remains under investigation; however, authorities have stated that speed and alcohol were believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
The I-680 North on-ramp from I-80 West closed for a few hours Wednesday afternoon following the crash, diverting traffic to either continue along I-80 West or take the Center and I-L-Q streets exit while investigators processed the scene. NDOR and NSP assisted with traffic control.
