On Monday, drug overdose awareness week begins throughout the State of Nebraska.
Governor Pete Ricketts announced the week back on Aug. 6. The state hopes by raising awareness they can cut down on overdose deaths in Nebraska.
Since 1999, overdose deaths have tripled. Part of the week is a push to turn in expired or leftover prescription drugs by bringing them to more than 300 pharmacies around the state.
