LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) — Lincoln Police say a 71-year-old woman may have been scammed out of nearly $10,000 by someone she says she met online.

According to police, the woman was purchasing an iphone at a Lincoln Target store with a Discover card that had someone else's name on it. When asked about it by the employee handling the transaction, the woman said it was for a man Robert Crane who had a 508 telephone prefix. The employee remembered an elderly woman making a similar purchase for the same name a few weeks ago and loss prevention was contacted.

The woman said she'd met the man on Facebook over a year ago and had been purchasing Itunes gift cards for him.

Police commended the employees for preventing further victimization of the woman and for helping to educate her to prevent future scam attempts.
