Iowa State University's embattled president is moving on to Auburn University.

Auburn trustees voted Monday to name Steven Leath as retiring president Jay Gogue's replacement.

Leath has been under fire for his use of university-owned airplanes.  An audit found Leath used those planes for medical appointments in Minnesota, personal flight lessons and trips to his home in North Carolina. He has reimbursed the university for the costs of those flights. University officials decided not to file criminal charges against Leath last month following an investigation into whether his use of the planes broke the law.

Auburn picked Leath during a search that did not include a public release of finalists. Critics say the selection process should have been more transparent.
