OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The FBI says a new special agent in charge has been appointed to the FBI's Omaha Field Office.

FBI Director Christopher Wray announced Eugene Kowell, who recently served as chief of staff to the FBI’s executive assistant director for the Intelligence Branch and as section chief of the Intelligence Branch’s Executive Staff Section at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., will take over operations in Omaha.

In 2016, Kowel served as an assistant special agent in charge for the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office.

The announcement comes about a month after his predecessor, Kristi Johnson, was relocated to the field office in Los Angeles.

Kowel joined the FBI in 2005 and worked on the Joint Terrorism Task Force in the New York Field Office where he took part in counter-terrorism investigations.
